About This Job

The Ministry of Railways, Government of Pakistan, has advertised through the National Job Portal for one contract-based position of Advisor at the MP-I pay scale, to be based in Islamabad. The Advisor will work directly with the Ministry on technical oversight of Pakistan Railways, one of the country's largest public-sector transport organizations, supporting the implementation of the organization's technical affairs and providing strategic and technical advice on railway policy, network planning, and infrastructure development. With a single vacancy on offer, this is a senior technical-advisory engagement intended to strengthen the Ministry's in-house capacity for guiding Pakistan Railways' modernization, operational planning, and system-wide technical decision-making, and the appointee will also take on any other related tasks assigned by the Ministry from time to time.

Candidates for this position must hold a Ph.D. in Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, together with at least seven years of professional experience in the relevant field; alternatively, a Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject is acceptable provided the candidate has at least nine years of professional experience in the relevant field. The maximum age limit stated in the advertisement is 62 years as on the closing date, with no minimum age, gender, or domicile condition mentioned, so the post is open to experienced professionals from across Pakistan, including those with backgrounds in railway engineering, transport or infrastructure planning, or public-sector advisory work on large transport systems. Recruitment for the post follows the MP Scales Policy, 2020 issued by the Establishment Division, and only short-listed candidates will be called for interview.

Interested candidates must apply online through the National Job Portal (www.njp.gov.pk) by logging into or registering an account and using the 'Login to Apply' button on the vacancy's own listing page; incomplete, late, or non-NJP applications will not be considered, and the advertisement does not mention any application fee. The notice was posted on 28 August 2026 and applications close on 12 September 2026, so candidates are advised not to wait until the final days to avoid last-minute login or document-upload issues on the portal. Given the single available position, the MP-I seniority level, and the strategic, ministry-level nature of the Advisor role in guiding Pakistan Railways' technical direction, qualified professionals meeting the Ph.D./Master's and experience criteria are encouraged to submit complete applications promptly through the official NJP portal well ahead of the 12 September closing date.
