Apply before 14 September 2026. Full application steps and eligibility criteria are below.
About This Job
The Planning Commission, functioning under Pakistan's Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives (MoPD&SI), has advertised one Islamabad-based vacancy for Sector Specialist - Agriculture under its Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening (CBIS) project. Graded PPS-10, the position is being filled on a purely contract and merit basis and forms part of the Ministry's broader role as an apex think tank that provides technical and professional input into national socio-economic planning and policy formulation. The selected specialist will work directly with the Member (Food Security and Agriculture) to strengthen the agriculture sector's contribution to Pakistan's development agenda, making this a senior technical role for professionals seeking to influence federal agricultural policy from within the country's central planning body.
Eligible applicants must hold a master's degree (16 years of education) in Agriculture, Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Crop Sciences, Soil Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, Rural Development, or another closely related discipline recognized by the Higher Education Commission, along with at least ten years of relevant field experience; prior experience in the public sector is preferred though not mandatory. The advertisement does not specify a numerical age ceiling, gender restriction, domicile requirement or provincial quota, so candidates should rely on the stated academic and professional criteria rather than assume any unstated concession. The appointment is initially for two years on contract, extendable on satisfactory performance, and carries a standard PPS-10 pay package. The terms of reference describe a wide-ranging advisory role: providing strategic input to the Member (Food Security and Agriculture) on long-term development plans and policies for the agriculture sector, reaffirming the vision of URAAN Pakistan through the 5Es framework, monitoring and evaluating development projects and technical-economic proposals in coordination with economic ministries and provinces, assisting notified forums, committees and authorities in project appraisal and approval, and helping prepare technical documents, presentations and policy responses for the Ministry's leadership.
Interested candidates who meet the qualification and experience criteria must apply online through the National Job Portal (www.njp.gov.pk) within fifteen days of the advertisement's publication; based on the closing date published on the Planning Commission's own career portal, applications will be accepted until 14 September 2026. Detailed terms of reference are also available on the Ministry's website (www.pc.gov.pk), and candidates already serving in government must route their applications through the proper channel. No application fee is mentioned in the advertisement. Incomplete applications will not be entertained, only short-listed candidates will be called for interview, and no TA/DA is admissible for the process. Applicants should compare their degree title and years of experience against the stated criteria, prepare documentary evidence of relevant public or private-sector agricultural policy work, and submit a complete NJP profile well before the deadline given the tight fifteen-day application window.
