About This Job

The Finance Division, Government of Pakistan, has announced four vacancies in its Tax Policy Office, the unit that shapes federal tax proposals and turns them into law during each budget cycle. The advertisement covers one Tax Lawyer and three Analysts for Personal Income Tax, all on the SPPS-III special professional pay scale. This listing is for the single Tax Lawyer post, based at the Pak Secretariat in Islamabad and reporting to the Director International Tax. The lawyer will draft the statutory provisions that go into the Finance Bill, convert budget proposals into tight legal text that achieves tax policy goals, keep wording consistent within and across tax statutes, and advise on the structure, wording and implications of proposed fiscal measures. The job also involves aligning tax law changes with other laws and with the relevant articles of the Constitution, giving inputs to defend amendments challenged in court on constitutional grounds, and coordinating with the Law & Justice Division for formal vetting.

Applicants need an LLM, preferably in an area of taxation, from an HEC-recognized university, along with a sound grasp of court procedure, civil and criminal law, and the constitutional provisions on taxation and fiscal federalism. The Finance Division wants someone who can turn technical and policy ideas into clear, enforceable legal text, vet and harmonize fiscal instruments across several tax laws, coordinate well with other agencies, and work to tight legislative deadlines during the budget season. At least ten years of active legal practice is required, including legal drafting, vetting or interpretation of fiscal laws. Candidates with a good number of reported judgments in tax matters, including prosecution proceedings, experience leading civil and criminal cases outside tax, knowledge of corporate, intellectual property and property-transfer law, and experience in arbitration and dispute resolution will have an advantage. The advertisement does not state an age limit or any domicile restriction.

Applications must be made online through the National Jobs Portal (njp.gov.pk), and the detailed job description can be downloaded from the Finance Division website. The advertisement gives 1 November 2026 as the last date, while the National Jobs Portal listing closes on 30 October 2026, so applicants should submit by the earlier date. Terms and conditions, including the pay package, follow the Establishment Division's O.M. No. 1/11/2018-E-6 dated 9 April 2024 as amended from time to time. Incomplete applications, those with a non-relevant qualification and late applications will not be considered. Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview, and no TA/DA will be paid. The Finance Division may cancel the recruitment process at any time. Questions can be directed to the Section Officer (HR-IV), Room 129, S Block, Pak Secretariat, Islamabad, on 051-9209930.
