About This Job

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has opened one contract position for Director General of the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE), listed on the National Jobs Portal on 13 October 2026 at the MP-I management pay scale. PIE is the federal body that handles education research, policy analysis, national learning assessments and education data systems, and the Director General sits at the top of the Institute, setting its strategic direction and steering its reform agenda. The person appointed will lead the design and rollout of the Institute's strategic plans, policies, systems and institutional reforms, oversee its research, assessments and knowledge products, advise the federal government on education policy, sector planning and learning outcomes, and represent PIE at national and international forums. The role also covers building partnerships with federal and provincial governments, academia, development partners, civil society and the private sector, and making sure governance, resources and performance are managed transparently and in line with the law. The appointment is for an initial three years, extendable on satisfactory performance, and the post is based in Islamabad.

Candidates need either a PhD or a Master's degree from a recognised national or international university in social sciences, management, public policy, administrative sciences, or numerical and mathematical sciences with data science. The experience requirement depends on the highest degree held: PhD holders need at least seven years of professional experience, while candidates with a Master's degree need nine years. The upper age limit is 62 years. The post is filled on open merit rather than a provincial domicile quota, and both men and women may apply. The ministry has also published the performance targets the Director General will be measured against. These include effective delivery of PIE's strategic plan, institutional reforms and performance-management framework; high-quality, policy-relevant research that is actually used in decision-making; stronger education data systems and national assessments; timely, credible advice to the ministry on policy and reform; working collaboration with federal, provincial and regional governments and other partners; stronger participation in international benchmarking; and sound governance, financial and human-resource management. Applicants should be ready to show a record that matches these expectations.

Applications are submitted online through the National Jobs Portal. Applicants log in or register with a PAK-ID verified account, open the Director General listing and complete the online application before the deadline of 27 October 2026. The portal names Islamabad as the test city for this recruitment, and no application fee is mentioned in the listing. Queries can be sent to the ministry at dea.edu@mofept.gov.pk or made by phone on 051-9201717. Senior education researchers, policy specialists and institutional leaders who meet the degree and experience thresholds should update their CVs and supporting documents now and submit their applications well before the closing date rather than waiting for the final days.
