About This Job
The Indus River System Authority (IRSA), an autonomous federal body set up under Act No. XXII of 1992 to regulate the sharing of Indus waters among the provinces, has announced one vacancy for a GIS/Web GIS Analyst through the National Testing Service (NTS). The post belongs to IRSA's Telemetry Project, formally titled "Installation of Telemetry System for Real Time Discharge Monitoring at 27 Key Sites on Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS)". WAPDA is the executing agency, so staff hired under this advertisement will be attached with WAPDA during execution, through a one-year defect liability period, and then through WAPDA's two-year maintenance period for training purposes. The position carries Standard Pay Package PPS-07, which is Rs. 157,500 per month, making it one of the better-paid project roles currently open in the federal water sector. For GIS and remote-sensing professionals, it is a chance to work on a national system that measures river discharges in real time and feeds the data used for inter-provincial water accounting.
Applicants need at least a second-class M.Sc. or a 16-year Bachelor programme in IT, GIS or Computer Science, together with a minimum of five years of hands-on work in ESRI ArcMap and ArcCatalog, including the 3D and Spatial Analyst extensions. An MS or M.Phil. with 18 years of education will count as a preference. The upper age limit is 30 years, with relaxation available under Federal Government rules, and anyone whose minimum academic qualification is below second division will not be considered. Day-to-day work covers managing and analysing GIS datasets through spatial queries, thematic maps and reports, acquiring and interpreting satellite imagery from sources such as Landsat and Google Earth in ERDAS Imagine or ENVI, and supporting ArcGIS installation and licensing, Web-GIS services, data archiving and staff training. The appointment is on open merit as a project employee, initially for one year and extendable on a satisfactory performance evaluation and project needs, with a 5% annual increment. Candidates already serving in government, semi-government or autonomous bodies must apply through proper channel with an NOC from their department.
Applications are made online on the NTS website, after which the candidate must post a hard copy of the completed online form, with attested copies of educational and experience certificates, domicile, CNIC and NOC where relevant, to NTS Headquarters at Plot No. 96, Street No. 4, Sector H-8/1, Islamabad, within 15 days of the advertisement's publication. The NTS fee can be paid through 1Link 1Bill participating banks, ATMs, internet or mobile banking, EasyPaisa, JazzCash or TCS Express counters. Forms that are incomplete, filled in wrongly or delivered by hand will be rejected, and anyone applying for more than one post must submit a separate online application for each. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the test and interview, and no TA/DA will be paid. The last date to apply is 26 October 2026, so interested GIS specialists should register on the NTS portal early and keep their documents ready for the postal submission.
